First year retention rate

The percentage of freshmen who return for their sophomore year has been consistently 96 percent since fall 2006. More information (PDF) »

The percentage of students who have graduated six years after entering the university as freshmen has grown from 85 percent in 1997 to the current level of 90 percent. More information (PDF) »

From 2005-06 through 2009-10, the number of undergraduate degrees conferred increased 15 percent; the total number of degrees conferred increased 11 percent. More information (PDF) »

Resident tuition and fees after financial aid is included, as a percent of median family income

Tuition and fees (after financial aid) as a percentage of the median income for a Michigan family of four (using U.S. Census Bureau figures) grew slightly less than 1 percent, from 9.9 percent in 2008-09 to 10.8 percent in 2009-10, in part because median income declined from $74,824 to $70,600.

State funding to support higher education operations

In the last nine years, the university has seen a 13 percent reduction in state funding. In the coming year, the governor has proposed a 15 percent reduction in state funding. Since 1960 state funding as a proportion of the university’s general fund budget dropped from 78 percent to 20 percent. More information »
