Athletics: Committee on Infractions

NCAA COMMITTEE ON INFRACTIONS (11/4/10)

The NCAA Committee on Infractions announced today (Thursday, Nov. 4) that it has accepted the self-imposed sanctions initiated by the University of Michigan during the NCAA Response on May 25, and added an additional year of probation. The university contested two allegations, and the NCAA report was favorable in each instance.

"There were no surprises and there will be no appeal, because there is nothing to appeal," said director of athletics Dave Brandon. "Effective today, this process is over and done and we can focus all of our time and energy on the future." (more)

U-M RESPONDS TO NCAA NOTICE OF ALLEGATIONS (5/25/10)

The University of Michigan announced today it has self-imposed sanctions in its football program for violating NCAA rules. The sanctions – which relate to quality control staff and practice and training time -- follow a cooperative investigation with the NCAA and are detailed in a response to a Notice of Allegations the institution received Feb. 22, 2010. The response also outlines actions already taken to prevent similar violations from occurring in the future.

“As we have said all along, we take full responsibility for knowing and following NCAA rules, and we will address concerns, quickly and head on,” said U-M President Mary Sue Coleman. “We believe the sanctions we have imposed fit the nature of the violations.” (more)
