U-M Responds to signing of "Public Employee Domestic Partner Benefit Restriction Act" (HB 4770)

Dec. 23, 2011

Gov. Rick Snyder has signed legislation that prevents some public employers from offering medical benefits to the domestic partners of public employees, but he also said university employees are exempt. The university issued this statement:

While we strongly urged a veto of HB 4770, we emphatically agree with the governor’s analysis that the provisions of the law do not apply to state university employees. We continue to believe that all of the benefit offerings at the University of Michigan are in full compliance with state law.
