David Lampe

David Lampe came to the University of Michigan in the fall of 2007. A lifelong communications professional with extensive experience in news, public relations and marketing communications, Lampe was previously executive director of marketing and communications at the Harvard Business School. He also held directorships in marketing and communications at Arthur D. Little, Inc., Boston University, and MIT.

At Michigan, Lampe serves as the U-M’s chief communications officer, and as such, works closely at the executive level to identify key issues and strategies that help advance the University's reputation. He also serves as an advisor to senior management of the University, including deans, directors and the president’s office.

Lampe holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (1973), a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from MIT (1976) and a master of arts degree in journalism from Stanford (1981).
