State Higher Education Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2009

On June 27, 2008, the House and Senate approved $14.5 million in new funding for the state’s 15 public universities. This includes a 1 percent across-the-board increase for each of the schools, down from the 3 percent recommended by the Governor and approved by the Senate and the 2.7 percent approved by the House.

The final bill, like the Executive and the House versions, provides a separate section for the University Research Corridor institutions: University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University. Governor Granholm approved the bill on July 15, 2008.
